Version 1.10.656 - New playable character: Lizzy!


New playable character - Lizzy! Finally some destructive power. She has explosive bullets that kill all enemies in range and clean up toxic puddles. As if that wasn’t enough, Lizzy can dash through walls. All of this is compensated by… yeah, she has only one hit point.

Full changelog:

  • New playable character: Lizzy - with her art (3 skins), personal soundtrack, sounds, UI, game mechanics and story.
  • Fix alpha bleeding bug. This beast took most of the development time, but now finally we don’t have dark borders around powerups and monsters, and no more dark lines on playable characters portraits. Huge thanks @michaliskambi (author of Castle Game Engine) for explanation and help with this issue!
  • Shifted images mechanics. This was not necessary for the current game (we didn’t run low on video memory anywhere), but is important for further projects. Still gives a tiny performance and VRAM boost.
  • Fix tileset - 2 tiles were semi-transparent when they shouldn’t have been.
  • Smaller score to unlock new skins - it was way too hard, especially on mobile.
  • Started proof-reading all in-game texts (not yet finished, but a lot of small improvements already implemented).
  • Fix Cheety - Cloud skin colors.
  • Fix Foxy - Arctic skin geometry.
  • Small fixes and improvements.

Remaining tasks until 2.0 version:

  • End-game (aka victory) sequence art and story.
  • Proof reading of all the texts.
  • New cover art and splash screen.
  • Screen shaker for Lizzy’s explosions.
  • Big playtest to make sure the balance is right for all the characters.
  • Fresh screenshots, make sure all screenshots make sense. Maybe a few gif-screencasts.

yes, I hope I’ll finish this project by the New Year, so from 2022 I’ll start a new project - action-roguelite (still struggling with how to make it better for Android phones - I’m trying to foresee the convenient gameplay from the very beginning). And some testing would be super welcome, I’ll write to you soon. Thank you!

i have only one question, how I get the skins of the character

You need to get some high score with the character. E.g. if you play with Foxy:

  • You get over 1500 (750) points, you unlock Cheety.
  • You play again with Foxy and get over 2500 (1250) score and unlock Arctic Foxy skin.

Same with other characters. E.g. You play with Deery:

  • You get over 1900 (950) points and unlock Lizzy.
  • You play again as Deery and get over 2900 (1450) points and unlock Golden Deery skin.
  • You play again as Deery and get over 3900 (1950) points and unlock Girly Deery skin.

When you start playing as the character - there is information at the bottom how many points you need to get to unlock something next. Only one item is unlocked at a time. First - next character, then - second skin, then - third skin (if available for this character).

(Now I understand myself how confusing this system is. I need to somehow explain it in-game :) I’ll think of something more obvious)

When you unlocked the skin (it will tell in the Game Over screen) you need to go back to Menu and click the second button near the character name - to switch between the skins.
